Christopher James Antonucci (1965-2024)
It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Christopher James Antonucci, who was born October 24, 1965, and who peacefully walked through Heaven's gates on June 15, 2024. Chris's life was led with a servant's heart full of love, loyalty, and an inviting laugh that would light up any room.
Born in
LaPorte, Indiana, to John and Rose Marie Antonucci, Chris grew up in the welcoming town of New Carlisle. He graduated from New Prairie High School in 1984, forming lifelong friendships that became the bedrock of his remarkable journey. He furthered his education at both Holy Cross College and Southwestern Michigan College, earning degrees in liberal arts and business management.
In 1987, Chris embarked on a distinguished 37-year career as a firefighter, starting as a volunteer for the New Carlisle Fire Department. His unwavering commitment and bravery saw him rise through the ranks, culminating in his role as the Warren Township Fire Chief for the past 11 years, which fulfilled a lifelong dream. Chris's leadership, courage, and dedication were an inspiration to all who had the honor of working alongside him.
Before becoming chief of the Warren Township Fire Department, Chris spent 15 years leading the University of Notre Dame's Risk Management and Safety department.
On October 27, 2001, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in New Carlisle, Chris married the love of his life, Linda, and together they enjoyed a storybook romance for over 22 years. They enjoyed traveling and creating new experiences together. He was a devoted father to Cristal and Kayla, who adored his patience, unwavering support, and loving spirit.
An avid golfer, Chris spent many years serving as a golf pro at Morris Park Country Club, cherishing every opportunity to spend an afternoon - or morning - on the greens. He was also an active community member, serving as an usher for many years at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church.
Outside of his professional career, Chris had several passions. As a member of the Axeman M/C, he loved cruising the highways on his Harley. He was a culinary maestro, known far and wide for his legendary baby back ribs. And he was the ultimate Bloody Mary maker and consumer, a title he held with pride.
Chris had a profound love for all animals, especially his cherished cats, Patches and Buddy. His gentle nature and kind heart made him a beloved figure among all who knew him. Slow to anger but not afraid to flare his Italian temper when needed, Chris was quick to forgive, embodying a spirit of generosity and compassion.
Those fortunate enough to know Chris closely will remember him as a man with the biggest heart and the most gentle soul. His presence in our lives was a gift, and his legacy of love, humor, and dedication will continue to inspire us.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his two daughters, Cristal (Ryan) Blasko of
Louisville, Kentucky, and Kayla (Eric) Hansen of
Clinton, Tennessee; his son, Joshua (Becky) Mathews of
Eureka, Illinois; and grandchildren, Hayes Hansen and Abigail, Ashton, and Addison Mathews; sister Jaime Frazier; brother John (Debbie) Antonucci; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind countless friends and colleagues who were touched by his kindness and service. Chris is preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Marie Antonucci, and brother-in-law Mark Frazier.
Chris will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Chris. Your legacy of love and serving others will forever be remembered.
