He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, where he served as an usher, sang in the Men's Choir, and volunteered at the church help desk. He retired from Pittsburg Glass in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Childers, and son, Ricky Childers. He leaves cherished memories to his son, Darryl Childers (Trenita) of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Cherese Childers-Mckee (Damon), Charlotte, NC; brother, Lonnie Childers; sister, Gloria Thompson (Ben); six grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be Monday July 15 at 12:00 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury, NC.

Chris and Rena genuinely and happily welcomed our family into theirs when their son Darryl married our daughter Trenita. And they have never changed. I will always love and miss them both.
