Christopher Morgan Higgins, born on August 31, 1970, was unexpectedly called home on January 8, 2026, leaving behind an enormous legacy of faith, family, community service, and entrepreneurship.
Chris was born in
Doylestown, Pennsylvania, to Ronald Higgins and Carole Roundsaville. He spent his childhood as a devoted older brother, sharing a close bond with his younger brother, Dylan, who was nearly seven years his junior. From an early age, he showed exceptional athletic talent, excelling as the star pitcher for the Durham Township Little League. In high school, he continued to shine at Palisades High School, where he was recognized as one of the varsity basketball team's top scorers.
After high school, Chris proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a combat veteran, demonstrating the same courage, discipline, and dedication that he carried throughout his life. During his time in the service, he moved to Arizona, where he met Teresa. Together they had three children: Hollyann (Brad), Cory (Lena), and Joshua (Cheyna). Chris was later stationed in Belgium for four years, during which time the family had the opportunity to travel throughout Europe.
Upon returning to Arizona, Chris utilized his college degree at Motorola. During this period, the family moved to Pine, Arizona, where they spent many years getting to know and enjoy Northern Arizona.
Chris met his wife Maria in 2007 while heavily involved in youth ministry. In 2008, Chris and Maria opened their first business, Scoops Ice Cream Shop, which later evolved into Scoops Ice Cream and Espresso and Scoops Mobile Concessions serving local events and becoming the official ice cream of ASU Sun Devil sporting events. Chris and Maria shared 16 years of marriage. Together they raised five more children: Adam, Caroline (Matthew), John (Chloe), Grace (Jayden), and Noah.
In 2013, Chris ventured into a new endeavor with a nonprofit radio station, K-RIM Arizona's first low power FM radio station. Through his work in radio, he became a DJ and sports announcer, sharing his love of music and his strong community spirit. He brought excitement, laughter, and energy to countless events, including high school sports games.
Chris was also deeply involved in civic life, serving as Mayor and Councilman for 10 years. He led with integrity, humility, and compassion, and his commitment to public service reflected his genuine care for others. He served on countless boards for local organizations and was heavily involved in charity work for any individuals or groups in need. Chris also served several times as a youth sports coach. He was indeed a friend to all he encountered.
In the final five months of his life, Chris became a high school teacher, where he inspired creativity and curiosity in the lives of his students.
Above all, Chris was a devoted family man. He was a loving husband to Maria and a proud father and grandfather to eight children and six grandchildren, with two more on the way. His family was the center of his life, and his love and guidance will live on through them.
A devoted man of God, Chris lived according to Scripture and believed in putting faith into action. Among his favorite Bible verses were James 2:26, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also," and John 3:16, reflecting his belief in God's love and promise of eternal life.
Chris leaves behind his loving wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and an entire community that mourns his loss and cherishes his memory.
