Chris D. Johnsen passed away at the age of 58 on the 28th of August, 2022, in Sarasota. Chris is survived by his wife Mara Jacobs, children Christine and Kevin; and siblings Bruce, Gweneth, Gail, Alicia and Ana.
Chris was born and raised in Madrid, Spain and worked there till he came to Sarasota in 1998, accompanied by his wife and children.
Having graduated from Georgetown University and obtained an MBA from Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management, Chris worked in corporate finance and then transitioned to a tax advisory role for individuals and corporations.
Chris devotion to family and friends created a hub where all near and far felt welcomed and cherished. He was the consummate host and a comforting presence to all who came in contact with him. His strong work ethic made him a role model for the Spanish adolescents he would mentor when they came to Sarasota for their year abroad.
His parents, Alf and Betty (Collins) Johnsen preceded Chris in death.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 10:30 am at Saint Jude Catholic Church, 3930 17th Street, Sarasota, Florida 34235. Memories and condolences may be left for the family online at www.MFHcares.com.

I feel beyond fortunate to have known Chris, even though the time was far to limited. The annual New Year's parties and our occasional gatherings for dinner were a celebration of our mutual passion for great food, prepared well and for the joy of sharing a new wine, scotch, whiskey. The smile when he described the enjoyment of a steak dinner while visiting his native Spain is one that I will never forget. Rest easy my friend...

From a blonde (like Chris in his younger days) I so remember him diving into the pool at Marazul! I am Alf's younger sister and feel such pain to have a cousin go so young. I know he is in Paradise with Alf and Betty. Cousin Suzanne

Our deepest sympathies. We're shocked and saddened to hear of Chris' passing. We have fond childhood memories of Chris and all the Johnsen cousins. It was great we were able to reconnect years later and enjoyed meeting Mara, Kevin and especially glad to have spent some time with Christine at Grinnell. Our deepest sympathies for you at this time. The world is much less bright without Chris and his great sense of humor and his bright smile. I will miss his goodness and his way of making things a bit better.
