Obituary of Christopher Preston Moody
Christopher P. Moody passed away at the age of 74 on Feb 4 th 2025 after a long battle with
COPD. He is survived by his sister Raye-Marie Green and her son Theodore Green as well as
many wonderful friends. Chris is predeceased by his mother, Kathleen Marie Marshall, father,
Elwin Christopher Moody, and brother, Theodore Moody.
Chris was born in Bangor, Maine but grew up in Monroe, Maine. He graduated from Mount View
High School in 1969 and went on to attend Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute where
he completed a two year vocational program in carpentry. He would later use these skills to
completely renovate his beautiful home. Chris also attended Rhode Island School of Design
where his focus was on culinary art. He used his education to gain employment on the RV
Endeavor and Oceanus where he proudly served as Chief Steward for many years. His position
allowed him to travel the world and meet many great people along the way. Chris loved to ski,
cook, walk, renovate, garden, water ski, spoiling his cats, and spending time with his friends that
he cherished most of all.
He was a member of the Waterville Community Land Trust Committee and the South End
Neighborhood Association. His quick wit and sense of humor made him a joy to be around and
was the foundation for many great friendships in his life. Chris overcame a lot of adversity in his
life starting a young age. As a survivor of sexual abuse and drug addiction he persevered and
was able to live a successful life of recovery. He wrote a poem to give others hope that they too
can overcome such difficult experiences.
Man on the Run
By Christopher Moody
Just a child, very innocent, not wild
Not special, just a child
Six years old, going on seven
Very happy, living in heaven
Why I was chosen, I'll never know
From that day on, there was no glow
Life became hell, inside of me
And I decided to let it be.
No one knew I was so sad,
I believed I was just bad
Life was not easy and sometimes it was hard
Couldn't let any know what was inside.
When drugs and alcohol didn't work anymore,
I just wanted to close lifes door
Wanting to feel normal was not in the cards
Learning to accept was in the stars.
Peace came in the years to come,
I was no longer a man on the run.
There will be no public service however Chris requested that in in lieu of flowers, a donation
could be made to the Waterville Community Land Trust, South End Neighborhood Association,
or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in his memory.

For some reason I remember the moment I met Chris. It was nothing momentous, but it was the germination of a great and long friendship. The longer I knew Chris, the deeper my respect and admiration for him became. He gave so freely of his generous and loving nature. He helped to buoy the spirits and hope of so many who were unaware of or were hiding from the damage in their own lives. He was a strong roll model for those trying to chase their dreams in spite of obstacles. My life has been richer and fuller for having him in it. On this anniversary of his passing I find that I miss my find deeply. May God bless and keep one of his most generous saints.

As a Rhode Island friend Chris and I talked on the phone frequently. He was not in good shape when we last talked but our discussion was very up beat. We talked about the time I hired him as the chef of Sigma Pi fraternity at the University of Rhode Island. The residents loved his creations and brought guests to many meals. I will miss Chris tremendously. He will be in my thoughts frequently and be missed. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again at the table in the sky. Walt Larmie

I will always remember Chris's quiet larrikin smile and wonderful laugh, which were seen and heard on many occasions, despite the pain he suffered. He had a huge heart and was happy to open it to those in need of succor. What a great joy it was to have known him.

Chris was my frog catching card playing buddy at camp on Swan Lake many years ago. RIP

Chris was a founding member of Waterville Community Land Trust. His beautiful home on Water Street became the meeting place for many South End Association meetings with Chris generously providing home baked refreshments. Chris loved to cook pies and we all enjoyed eating them.

We shared so many concerns together, often quick or long phone calls to complain or accept with humor daily news events. Chris cared deeply about politics. I think he would accept my characterization of him as a liberal but with the yankee belief that people also needed to accept responsibility.

When my cat, Hattie, had her litter of kittens, Chris adopted and adored the male kitten that he named Gus. Gus grew to be taller but identically marked as his mother.

I knew Chris would be leaving us when he was ready but only a few days before his death he had made a large pot of soup and froze portions for later use. I had hoped that meant that we had more time together.

Blessing for peace and love with your heavenly family . From our childhood days, to our school years memories, and when we met again many years later ,we just continued on with our friendship. That´s what great cousins do.

Chris was a dear friend. We talked daily and he always had a laugh. He went on his own terms. His last hours were peaceful and surrounded by friends who loved him very much. Chris was the bravest man I ever met. I'll be with you before long.
