Christos V. Bletsis, 83, a longtime resident of Lowell, passed away peacefully at Lowell General Hospital on Monday, June 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Eleni (Sioras) Bletsis.
Born in Gianneika, Arcadia, Greece, on July 5, 1941, and was the son of the late Vasilios and Eleni (Layiandreas) Bletsis.
Christos served in the Greek army before he immigrated to Lowell in 1967 in search of a better life. He began working in the city's mills and various local restaurants, always with a strong work ethic and a quiet determination to build something of his own. That dream became a reality when, alongside his brother George Bletsis, he founded the famous Star Pizza in the Acre neighborhood of Lowell. Christos became known not only for his delicious food but also for his boundless generosity. No one left hungry from Star Pizza. If someone came in without money, they were still served a hot meal. That was the kind of man Christos was--always ready to help anyone in need, without question and without expecting anything in return.
Christos's kindness, humility, and dedication to others left an enduring mark on all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through quiet acts of service and compassion. He was also a devoted communicant of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut, MA.
Christos is survived by his wife Eleni, and their three children, son Vasilios Bletsis and his wife Georgia, daughter Caliope "Kelly" Bletsis and her husband Chris Silva, and son Athanasios Bletsis. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Eleni and Christos "CJ" Silva, and Elena and Thanasi Bletsis.
He is also survived by his brother George Bletsis; his sister Dina and her husband Vasilios Poulopoulos; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins both in the United States and Greece.
He was predeceased by his siblings Antonios Bletsis, Stella Zareas, and Evagelia Stergiou.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 9 am to 11 am at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1160 Mammoth Road, DRACUT. His funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery, LOWELL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church.
