Clair Edward Spitzley, age 84, of DeWitt, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025. He was born on May 12, 1941, in Ionia, Michigan, the eldest of two children to Martin and Lillian (Geller) Spitzley.
Clair graduated from Fowler High School and went on to work for many years as a skilled butcher in DeWitt. Later, he became a machinist at Cameron Tool in Lansing, where he worked until his retirement in 2003.
In his free time, Clair enjoyed reading, solving sudoku puzzles, and being surrounded by nature. A man of quiet dedication and deep generosity, Clair was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross, the local food bank, and the VFW in DeWitt. He had a love for the outdoors and spent many joyful days on fishing trips to Canada. He also treasured time spent at the family cottage on Duck Lake.
He is survived by his wife Marlene of Dewitt; daughter, Beth Wong of Fremont, CA; son, Craig (Shelley) Spitzley of Ashley, MI; grandchildren, Kaitlin Wong of Fremont, CA, Jared (Rachel) Spitzley of Ashley, Tyler Spitzley of Ashley, Chelsey Spitzley of St Johns, MI, Brendon Spitzley of Ashley, MI; 2 great granddaughters; sister, Mary Lee (Jerry) Jorae of St Johns, MI; stepchildren: Lynda (Wayne) Vrendenburg of Grand Rapids, Mary (Roger) Ryan of DeWitt, Debbie (Mike) Paradise of St. Johns, Mike (Linda) Petrowsky of Sturgis, Ryan (Laurie) Petrowsky of Laingsburg, Cheryl Petrowsky of Britten, Tammy Williams of Warren, many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Clair Spitzley Jr and son-in-law, Michael Wong.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, 12:30 PM, at McGeehan Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Pkwy, St. Johns, with gathering beginning at 11:30 AM. Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. A luncheon will follow.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the DeWitt VFW.
