Clair Eugene Thostenson, 78, of Alden, MN, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Hillcrest Cemetery, 17544 US Highway 65 N, Albert Lea, with Pastor Joy Knoppel officiating. All are welcome to join the graveside service.
Born on May 9, 1945, in Albert Lea, Clair was a son of the late Alvin and Marie Thostenson, and the beloved husband of Susan Thostenson for 55 years.
Clair grew up on the family farm in Alden, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for the land. After receiving his High School Diploma, he dedicated himself to the agricultural industry, spending 25 years at Farmland Foods. As a diligent laborer and truck driver, he took pride in his work.
Clair was known for his friendly nature and willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether it was stopping to assist someone on the side of the road or providing a listening ear to a friend in need, he always made it a point to show kindness and generosity. His ability to fix anything made him a handyman in his family's eyes, and his chocolate chip cookies were adored by all who tasted them. In his free time, Clair enjoyed exploring the open road, taking scenic drives, and playing card games. The simple pleasure of enjoying a scoop of his favorite ice cream brought him immense joy and contentment.
As a father, Clair was exceptional. He was a pillar of strength and support, always providing for his family with unwavering dedication. Despite the demands of his work, he made time to be present for every milestone and cherished every moment spent with his children: Alex, Amy, and Chris.
Clair had a generous and caring nature that extended beyond his own family. He had a kind compassionate heart, a willingness to help anyone in need, and words of wisdom.
Left to cherish Clair’s memory are his wife, Susan Thostenson of Alden; children, Alex Thostenson of Alden, Amy (Joe) Spinler of West Salem, and Chris (Jamie) Thostenson of International Falls; ten grandchildren, Wesley, Derek, Madalynn, Izabelle, Porter, Allison, Kindra, Erica, Olivia and Jake; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Alvin and Marie Thostenson, Clair was preceded in death by a brother, Vern Thostenson; and many aunts and uncles.
