Graveside services for Clara Mae Dowdle, age 79, of Grenada are at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2023 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grenada. Visitation is Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home in Grenada. Bro. Ricky Harris will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Sanford Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Brandon Haley, Rhyan Haley, Jaxon Haley, Floyd Elie, and Lee Dowdle. Honorary pallbearers will be Maddox Couch and Jacob Cole Bennett.
Clara passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at her daughter's home. She was born on October 22, 1943 to Winfred Adams and Eva Mae Peters.
Clara worked as a seamstress at Pennaco Hosiery Mill for 33 years before retiring. She then worked 13 years in the Garden Center at Walmart in Grenada, a job that really fit her because she loved flowers and yardwork. She also enjoyed walking and could often be seen walking around her neighborhood. Clara attended Elliott Baptist Church until her health prevented her from doing so. She was a special person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Clara was preceded in death by her father, Winfred Adams; her parents, Clyde James Peters, Sr. and Eva Mae Peters; and her husband, G.W. "Buddy" Dowdle.
She is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Bennett (Sanford) of Carrollton; one sister, Linda Lane (Andy) of Duck Hill; two brothers, Carlton Peters and Buster Peters (Gail), both of Duck Hill; two granddaughters, Jessica Dru Couch and Megan Denise Haley (Brandon); one grandson, Jacob Winford Bennett (Katie); and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Timothy Ragland and the members of the Cath Lab; Linda Carter, the Admissions staff, and the Ambulatory Care staff at UMMC of Grenada; Accent Care-Sta Home Health and Hospice of Grenada; and Fresenius Kidney Care of Grenada.
Mortimer National Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
