Anne Wendt departed this life on July 16, 2025, at the age of 94. Born Clara Anne Diller on June 22, 1931, in Albany, Texas, Anne was a cherished mother and friend whose warmth and love profoundly touched the lives of those around her.
Anne was valedictorian of her high school class. She majored in both mathematics and English at the University of Texas. After graduating, she worked in the aircraft industry in California prior to moving to Lubbock where she met her husband, Charles William Wendt. She was a math teacher at J T Hutchison and MacKenzie junior high schools. In later years, she served as a math tutor to friends and neighbors, bringing many from hopelessness to relieved accomplishment.
She was the proud mother of five: Chuck, John, Eric, Elaine and Cynthia. Anne brought a rich family life to her children, who all learned to play musical instruments and benefitted from her math expertise. They all learned to garden, and at harvest time, shucking corn, snapping beans, canning and freezing fruits and cracking pecans became the summer and fall routine. An accomplished from-scratch cook, her homemade ice cream, particularly peach and apricot, were well-known, as were her pecan pralines and homemade oatmeal bread around Christmas time, shared with all.
Throughout her life, she was involved in community services, being a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, the Lubbock Food Bank, and the Presbyterian Center which catered to the medical needs of the underserved. She was a long-time member of Grace Presbyterian Church.
In her later years she was cared for by her nurse manager, Moiselle Bruns, and caregivers Sonia McDowell, Noemi Delgado, Veronica Guerrero, Sally Florez, and Nicole Dell. We are deeply grateful for the comfort, love, companionship and professional care of all her caregivers in her final years.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wendt; father and mother, John and Virgie Diller; and son, Eric Wendt.
Anne's life will be celebrated during a funeral service that will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church in Lubbock, Texas, on Friday July 18, 2025, at 11:00 am with Reverend Dana Mayfield officiating. This ceremony will offer family and friends a chance to honor her memory and share in the love she inspired throughout her life.
A Reception will be held in the Grace Presbyterian Church parlor prior to the service at 10:00 am.
Following the service, Anne will be laid to rest at the City of Lubbock Cemetery, located at 2011 E 31st Street, Lubbock, TX, where all invited to attend to pay their final respects.
Anne left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you say goodbye to Anne. I have many fond memories of her and her slow, easy style. She was always kind and thoughtful. She loved her family deeply. While visiting Mary in Denver, your mom and dad also came to visit. The next morning, I was asking Anne how she could sleep through Charles snoring. Without hesitation she answered "Oh, that´s music to my ears. That´s how I know he´s still with me." That demonstration of her deep love for Charles has always stayed with me. I will always remember her smile. May she rest in peace with her family that has gone before her. She will always be in your hearts.

With sympathy, Barbara Hannah
