Clarabelle Gwen Cagle, age 87, went to be with her Savior at her home in the greater Bastrop area on February 23, 2025. She was born on December 8, 1937, in Houston, Texas, to Willis Ward Dent and Gwendolyn Dorris Dent. She grew up sharing a loving and close relationship with her older brother, Willis Ward Dent, Jr.
Claire married the love of her life, Bert, on June 14, 1958. After graduating with a degree in teaching and Bert with a degree in electrical engineering from Colorado University, they began their journey together. Bert's work with Boeing's Aerospace division took the couple across the country. While in Seattle, Washington, they welcomed their son, Cactus Jack Cagle, and in Huntsville, Alabama, their daughter, Cathy Kay Moore, which completed their family. The space program later brought Bert, Claire, and their children to New Orleans for a brief period before they settled back in Houston, moving close to her parents.
Capitalizing on her years of public school teaching experience and her entrepreneurial spirit, Claire opened Apple Valley Day School in Houston, where she served as owner, director, and teacher for over a decade. After a fulfilling career in education and Bert's work as a rocket scientist, the couple retired to Deerridge, the family legacy given by her father, W.W. Dent, in the Rosanky, Texas area. This move led them to leave their beloved Freeway Baptist Church in Houston and become active members of Rosanky Baptist Church.
In retirement, Claire found great joy in decorating her home and warmly welcoming her grandchildren for holidays, summers, and weekends. Following Bert's passing in 2012, Claire moved to Corpus Christi. She joined Second Baptist Church, where her son-in-law also became her pastor. She lovingly referred to her Corpus home as her "beach house" and enjoyed being near her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. In November of 2021, she moved back home to Deerridge, her "country home" in Rosanky, Texas. Here, she lived out her last three years filled with family, friends, and celebrations. Claire's love of travel brought her on many adventures, creating lasting memories with her children, grandchildren, and the friends she made along the way.
Claire is survived by her son, Cactus Jack Cagle, and his wife, Janet; her daughter, Cathy Kay Moore, and her husband, Dana Moore; five grandchildren: Richard and his wife, Courtney Cagle; Drew and his wife, Nazerke Bakytzhan Moore; Victoria Cagle; Daniel Moore; and Elizabeth Cagle and her fiancé, Josh Crockett; and her great-grandchild, Ryder Cagle, who gave her the new name, "GG" (Grandma Great). Extended family includes Darlene Holcomb, Patsy and David Harbour, and Michael Holcomb.
A short celebration of life gathering from 5:00-6:00 and casual visitation from 6:00-8:00 will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at South Park Funeral Home in
Pearland, Texas. A graveside service will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at South Park Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Delhi Baptist Church Building Fund, 6172 TX-304, Rosanky, TX 78953
Claire loved Jesus dearly, and her wisdom, love for others, and curious mind will be deeply missed by all who knew her and treasured in the hearts of her family and friends.
