Clare S. Johns

Clare Johns (nee Newhall), age 85, of Gibbsboro, died unexpectedly on Aug. 29. Born in Camden and raised in Oaklyn, she graduated from St. Mary of the Angels Academy in Haddonfield. She was married to the love of her life, Bill Johns, for 62 years, and devoted her life to raising their two sons, William (Jennifer) and Robert (Diane).
Known for her "cold hands and warm heart," Clare was one of the sweetest women you'd ever want to meet. Though she was quiet, she loved to surround herself with family and friends, who always felt welcome in her home. She spent hours making sure her table settings and décor were perfect for the countless gatherings she and Bill hosted. A talented artist, she enjoyed ceramics, drawing, painting and making handmade gifts and baked treats for those she loved. She was also a loyal Philadelphia sports fan.
Always a classy lady, Clare never left home without looking her best, and her insistence on sending thank-you notes for even the smallest of kindnesses was legendary.
Besides her sons, Clare is survived by the grandchildren she adored: Erin, William Jr., Jessica, Lauren, Thomas, Mitchell and Gavin; her sister-in-law, Carole Word; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at the HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 9 White Horse Pike, Haddon Heights, N.J. Her Catholic funeral service will begin at noon. Entombment will follow at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden.
