Clarence Russell Obituary

Clarence Tyne Russell, 79, of Windsor, Connecticut, transitioned peacefully on November 11, 2025, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, on July 7, 1946, Clarence often shared the amusing story of his "two birthdays"-the result of a documentation error that recorded his birth one day late. He always enjoyed celebrating both July 6 and July 7 with pride and humor.
Clarence served honorably in the United States Navy for six years, a period that shaped his resilience, discipline, and deep appreciation for camaraderie. After his military service, he became well known throughout the community for his exceptional auto body work. He spent over a decade at Steben's Auto, where his coworkers became lifelong friends.
A man of simple pleasures and a laid-back spirit, Clarence enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool with friends and family. He also loved playing soccer throughout his life, finding joy in both the game and the camaraderie it brought. He rarely missed a UConn Women's Basketball game and had a lifelong love of country western movies and track-and-field meets. Some of his happiest moments were spent in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy.
Clarence is survived by his son, Michael Russell, and daughter-in-law Lizette Russell; his grandchildren, Michael Diaz-Russell (Taylor), Justice Diaz-Russell, and their mother Ana Cruz-Diaz; granddaughter Mia Maturo and her mother Alison Maturo; and step-granddaughter Jazline Nieves. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Kaiden Diaz-Russell and Kareem Abdul-Muhaymin (step). He is further survived by his siblings: brother Viron Russell (Betty), sister Elaine Pertillar (Edward) of Windsor, and sister Dawn Russell of Hartford; along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and his best friend, Willie Barnes, who remained by his side through every season of life.
Clarence was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Frances Russell; his parents, Iceline and Leon Russell; and his brother, Leon Russell Jr.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all relatives and friends for their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. A special heartfelt thank-you goes to the Hartford Hospital Cardiac ICU team for the extraordinary care and compassion shown to Clarence and his family.
May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Lodge.
Funeral Service will follow on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at The Lodge, 130 Deerfield Rd, Windsor, CT 06095.
