It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence “Swann” Lee Swannegan Jr, age 65, on August 13, 2025, at his residence. Swann was born on July 15, 1960 in Galveston, TX to Clarence Swannegan Sr and Cora Mae Evans Swannegan.
Swann grew up in Galveston and at an early age developed a love for playing basketball; in high school he was a fierce competitor and leader who contributed to Ball High’s winning seasons. Swann graduated in 1978, and then continued on his basketball journey to Tyler Jr College where he once again achieved recognition for his game. After 2 yrs at Tyler he transferred to Texas Tech, where his achievements were numerous including All-Newcomer team, All-SW Conference team along with leading the Red Raiders in scoring and rebounding. Upon graduating from Texas Tech in 1982 he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA draft. Although an unfortunate injury side-lined his NBA career he did go on to play European ball for several years in numerous countries.
Swann eventually returned back to his roots and his home town of Galveston where he was employed by the City of Galveston for over 20 years in numerous positions; until his retirement March 2024 as Special Projects Manager for Parks and Recreation.
Swann met his “Baby” Cyndy at Big Texas in 2010, their friendship grew into a beautiful loving relationship between two people that in looks were polar opposites but in spirit were one. In 2018, after six months of searching they found a new home in Groesbeck TX where they were welcomed by the community and started putting down roots; anxiously waiting until they could make Groesbeck their full-time home which eventually happened March 2024 upon his retirement. Swann found true peace in Groesbeck; taking care of “Baby”, living his country life, working the land, fellowship with his neighbors and thanking God every day for his blessings.
Swann was known for his larger than life presence, wonderful smile and most importantly his love for the Most High; he was a testament to his faith and found strength, peace and happiness through the Lord. Swann was preceded in death by his daughter Brittany Swannegan, grandmother Susie Mae Shankle, parents Clarence Swannegan Sr and Cora Mae Evans Swannegan; brothers Richard Swannegan, Bobby Swannegan, John Littles Sr & Chad Swannegan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 6 yrs Cyndy Rose; son Brandon Swannegan, daughter Victoria Swannegan; stepson Matthew Rose, wife Melissa; stepdaughter Amber Rose; 5 grandchildren Skylar, Maverick, Mason H., Mason R., Tyson; brothers Johnny Swannegan, Cedric Little, Charleston Swannegan, Danny Swannegan; sisters Susanna Swannegan, LaShanda Swannegan; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
