MUNCIE – Claris Virginia Meeks, 94, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023 at Wellbrooke of Carmel.
She was born on March 23, 1928 in Muncie, the daughter of Corvin A. and Bessie R. (Jaynes) McIntire and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1946. On July 24, 1948 in Muncie, she married Robert D. "Bobby" Meeks.
When she was young, she loved working in her aunt's grocery store. She became a homemaker who loving cared for her family and home. Her grandchildren, family and her faith meant everything to her. She was a member of the Muncie Quilters Guild. She attended Center Chapel and most recently Muncie Alliance Church. Claris and her husband Bobby were actively involved with Murray Dance Studio, where they enjoyed swing dancing.
She was an avid gardener, seamstress and loved traveling and being outside.
Surviving are two grandsons, Lee Licht (wife, Amy) and Rob Licht (wife, Tiffany); one granddaughter, Rachel McCord (husband, Jon); seven great-grandchildren, Cari Licht, Stella Licht, Sophia Licht, Loran Licht, Landon Licht, Mason McCord and Max McCord; one sister, Ruth Garrett; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother and father; her husband of over 56 years, Robert Darwin "Bobby" Meeks on April 4, 2005; her daughter, Rebecca L. Licht; son-in-law, James L. Licht; and seven siblings, Ira McIntire, Mary Garrett, George McIntire, Gilbert McIntire, Louise Thornbro, Paul McIntire and Phil McIntire.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Tomlinson Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
