Claryne Bowman Young, 90, passed away at St. Barnabas in Gibsonia, PA on September 27, 2024. Born March 5, 1934 in Johnstown, PA, daughter of Clarence S. Bowman and Kathryn Walker Bowman, and widow of Thomas A. Young. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Megan E. Barron and brother-in-law Garrett "Gary" C. Hatch. Survived by children Elizabeth Ward (J. Patrick), Coral Springs, FL; Carolyn Strunk (Donald), Pittsburgh; Susan Will (Dean), Wexford; Thomas B. Young, Johnstown; and John Young (Stephanie Sedor), Ebensburg. Also survived by grandchildren Christine "Christy" Timmins (Carrie); Laura Ploszay (Stephen); Kayla Wirfel (Jon); Jason Barron; Susan Strunk (Mark Liberto); Kaitlyn "Kay" Will; Abigail "Abbie" Young (Justin Bezek); and Benjamin "Ben" Young (Taylor Hritz). Beloved "Great-Grandma" of Brooklyn, Ty and Cooper Wirfel; Harper and Landon Ploszay; and James and Ethan Timmins. Also survived by sister Kathryn "Kathy" Hatch of Cary, NC; niece Heather Rogers (Chris) of Cary, NC; nephew Garrett Hatch-Graham (John) of Wilmington, NC; and great nieces and nephew Kathryn, Joshua and Courtney Rogers. Claryne was a graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School and earned her degree in Education at the University of Pittsburgh where she met her future husband, Tom. She taught elementary school for 34 years in the Greater Johnstown School District, where she always instilled The Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." All of her life, Claryne was a proud member of the Westmont Presbyterian Church, where she was the longest-living member at the time of her death. In addition, she sang in the chancel choir for many years. Some of Claryne's favorite activities were playing the piano, traveling, dining out and spending time in Naples, FL. Above all, Claryne was always happiest in the company of others, especially her family. She will be dearly missed by all. Friends will be received on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 4-8 P.M. at the Picking-Treece-Bennett Mortuary, Inc., 921 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown, PA. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Westmont Presbyterian Church, Reverend Bernard Nti officiating. Internment at Grandview Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either the Westmont Presbyterian Church, 601 Luzerne Street, Johnstown, PA 15905 or St. Barnabas Nursing Home, 5827 Meridian Rd., Gibsonia, PA 15044 in memory of Claryne.
