Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Britt David Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Jones officiating. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 Monday, July 24, 2023 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Sonny was born on September 8, 1942 in Shoterville, AL to the late Claude Benton, Sr. and Emma Eddie Benton. He was a member of Britt David Baptist Church where he enjoyed attending Sunday School and Service. Sonny loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, gardening and painting. Most of all, Sonny loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Once Sonny met you he considered you family.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jackie Benton of Columbus, GA, daughters, Darlene Baird (Brian) of Phenix City, AL, Charlene Barnes (Nathen) of Columbus, GA, grandchildren, Nathen Barnes, Jr. (Hartly), Hunter Bice (Benjamin), Summer Barnes, Harlie Baird, two great grandchildren, Elaina Bice, Wyatt Barnes and many other family members.
