Graveside services for Claude Gulley, 102, will be held Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with military honors at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana, 71104. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Broadmoor Baptist Church in the Memorial Chapel, 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71105 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Officiating the service will be Dr. Tom Harrison and Dr. John Sullivan.
Claude was born May 21, 1921 in Summerfield, Louisiana to Sammie and Jewell Gulley and passed from this life to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The couple were lifelong and dedicated members of Broadmoor Baptist Church. They cherished their church family.
He left to serve his country in WWII, he joined the Army February 26, 1942. He received Aristic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars for the Battles in Guadalcanal, Northern Solomons and Luzon. He also received The Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star. He was discharged from the Army on October 12, 1945 after which he began his new chapter in life. He began his family in Banning, California and shortly after he moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where he became involved in business. Over the years, C. Gulley Trucking Service was established and grew to provide jobs for many people through the years with clients including USPS and General Motors. Upon selling his transportation business Claude and Anne purchased a ranch in Scottsville, Texas and began raising cattle. The cattle operation brought much pleasure to both Claude and Anne over the years. The couple retired from raising cattle at the ages of 100 and 98 years old in the year 2021 where the cattle were sold, and he and Anne lived their life together at The Glen.
Claude is preceded in death by his parents. His memory is survived by his loving wife of 77 years, Annabelle Gulley; son, Michael M. Gulley and wife Sara; daughter, Claudia A. Nelson and husband, Howard; two grandchildren, Nicole Arendale and husband, Richard and Johnathan Nelson, M.D., and wife Katherine; great-grandchildren, Richard Arendale, Annie Arendale, Jane Nelson Arendale, Caroline Nelson and William Nelson and cousin, Helen Campbell.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Deborah Johnson for the endless care given, the staff at The Glen for their compassion, Broadmoor Baptist Church for their ministry to our family and friends for their support given during this time.
The family suggest memorials may be made to Claude and Anne Gulley Endowed Scholarship at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, 3939 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana 70126 or Broadmoor Baptist Church 4110 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71105.
