He was born August 3, 1952 in Wheeling, WV the son of the late Claude R. and Norma Jean Gregg Stephens.
Steve was an outdoor enthusiast and delighted at spending time at his camp on Fish Creek where he loved passing the day fishing and hunting. He was also a grass mowing aficionado and thoroughly enjoyed biding his schedule trimming the green blades on his tractor of choice. He was an avid fan of WVU athletics and St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
He enjoyed good quality music, cranking up the knob on the stereo to full blast, jamming on his bass guitar, playing in the band, and also had an enormous affection for The Beatles and classic rock.
Steve was a true companion of "man's best friend" and held a special place in his heart for German Shepherds. His favorite vacation spot was at the Outer Banks, NC. His 1969 Z28 Camaro was one of his prized possessions.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Stephens; two sons, Curt (Emily) Stephens of Lincoln, Nebraska and Eric (Sabrina) Stephens of Pittsburgh, PA; a daughter, Jenna Stephens of Lexington, KY; two sisters, JoAnne Hartzell of Bluefield, WV and Cynthia (Ivan) Antill of Glen Dale; a brother, Edward Stephens of Glen Dale; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Sam Renzella.
He was retired from Bayer/Covestro where he worked the majority of his career.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-7pm at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, 1 Ridgecrest Road, Bethlehem/Wheeling, WV.
