Claude "Sonny" W. Tignor, Jr., 1940-2024
Sonny passed away peacefully at home on July 31, 2024 at the age of 84. Sonny was born January 14, 1940, in Denison, and attended Denison schools until he was old enough to join the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy as a boatsman for four years.
Sonny worked in the beer business for Schlitz in Dallas for several years, came back to Grayson County in 1976 when he opened 'Sonny's Grocery' at Lake Texoma for a few years, then back to the beer business at Premium, then Andrews Distributing, in Denison until his retirement. Sonny enjoyed playing golf and 'betting the ponies'.
Sonny has left behind his life partner, Kathie Fox, and three children with Bonnie Tignor: daughter, Francine Thompson and husband Johnny, son, Claude "Woody" Tignor III and wife Sherri, and daughter, Suzette Smith and husband Johnny, and bonus daughter, Tammy Boyd. He also left behind two brothers, Andy Tignor and wife, Paula, and Rev. Mike Tignor, and wife, Johnnie Kay. Sonny had seven grandchildren, Claude "Clay" Tignor IV, Josh Tignor, Alex Tignor, J.C. Thompson, Terra Phillips, John Dylan Smith, and Allyson Wideman. Sonny had five great grandchildren and one more on the way!
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Sr. and Frances Tignor, and sister, Darleen Lannom.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home and will be buried at Calvary Cemetery with his mother.
