YOUNGSTOWN – Claudia Jeanne Corbé, 75, of Youngstown passed away early morning on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Hospice House with her loving family by her side.
Mrs. Corbé was born Wednesday, October 20, 1948 in Medford, Massachusetts. She was a daughter of James H. Murphy and C. Marie (Ouellette) Murphy and came to the Youngstown area in the fall of 1979.
She was employed by Youngstown State University in the student teaching program to offer guidance and education to her students. Mrs. Corbé was also the gifted Coordinator for the Maplewood, Bristol, and Badger School Systems and then to the Girard School System in which she evaluated and placed gifted children before retiring in 2015.
Claudia was a member of St. Edward Parish and was involved with marriage preparation and the RCIA programs at the church. Her passions included Literature, Masterpiece Theater on PBS, and the arts. A lifelong francophile, she had a love of french cuisine inspired by her idol Julia Child. She taught cooking classes at the Jewish Community Center and other locations but had the most enjoyment hosting parties at her beautiful home. Her green thumb and love for her yard provided peace and tranquility for the flowers that bloomed constantly.
She received her Bachelor of Arts at Salem University in Massachusetts, did Graduate Studies in English at the State University of New York - Oswego and Special Education at Penn State University. She received her Master of Science in Special Education from Youngstown State University. She had a passion for helping young minds grow into creative and intelligent adults.
Claudia leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Hervé Corbé whom she married September 3, 1972; son, James Corbé, his wife Chayanin Pornsriniyom, their son Luc Corbé of Brooklyn, NY; and a sister, Nancy Caswell, and nieces Liz Clark and Katy Paré of Massachusetts.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, David Murphy.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, April 12, 2024 in St. Edward Church from 10 am to 11:55 am followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at Noon celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that contribution may be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, North Lima, Ohio 44514 and/or Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, 1044 Belmont Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.
