Claudia Leo (Barmore) Ettel, 81, passed away in the evening hours of Friday, January 10th, 2025 in New Albany, IN surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 13th, 1943 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Irvin Leo Barmore and Freda (Larburg) Barmore. Claudia worked as an administrative assistant at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana for 17 years and after the family moved back to New Albany in 1993 she worked with the Floyd County School System and specialized in the English as a second language program. Claudia was an active member with St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Albany, Indiana.
Claudia lived her life sharing good will and talents. She participated in literacy and historical endeavors, family picnics and gatherings, community meals of all sizes, disaster aid relief needs, animal, environmental, and world welfare.
In her spare time she enjoyed needlework, quilting and was an avid seamstress making many of her daughters' wardrobes. She was an active member in Fortnightly, Altrusa, and Herb Clubs. Claudia loved to read and could always be found with several reads going at one time.
In addition to her parents, Claudia was preceded in death by; Father in Law, Clarence Ettel and Mother in Law, Iona Lois (Meek) Ettel.
Left to cherish her memory; loving husband of over sixty years, Dale E. Ettel; daughters, Melissa Baxter (Jeff) and Michele Sims (Doug); grandchildren, Meredith, Hannah, Katie, and Emma; great-grandson, Arlo; and brothers, Lou "Gary" Barmore (Joan), and Aaron Barmore (Bridget).
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church located at 1015 E. Main Street, New Albany, Indiana at a later date. Inurnment will follow in the church memorial garden.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations in Claudia's name to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in New Albany, Indiana.
