Clay Allen Mendenhall, age 68, of Sophia passed away September 29, 2025 in Asheboro, North Carolina. He was born March 30, 1957 in Randolph County, North Carolina the son of the late Raeford Franklin Mendenhall and Margaret Barker Mendenhall. Also preceding him in death are his daughter, Sandra Levesque; and brother, Mark Curtis Mendenhall.

Clay was a free spirit and his passion for mechanics propelled him to pursue courses in diesel mechanics. Later he found his true calling as a truck driver where he skillfully navigated both long and short hauls. Clay began working with esteemed companies like Thomas Built Buses and even taking on the rugged challenge of logging truck driving. His remarkable talent for engines meant that he could disassemble and reassemble them with unmatched speed and precision, a testament to both his technical ability and his love for the work. Beyond his career, Clay was a dedicated son, he selflessly cared for his aging parents, ensuring they were surrounded by love and support. Among his close-knit circle of friends, he was known for his quick wit bringing a bit of humor to their impromptu hangouts.
