Funeral service at Hastings Baptist Church, Hastings, OK, Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., Pastors Scott Kidd and Phil Tallman officiating under the direction of Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home in Walters, OK. Interment in the Hastings Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Clifford LaTeer Awtrey was born to Clifford Eugene and Dorothy (Shelby) Awtrey on October 13, 1936 in Randlett, OK and departed this life in Lawton, OK on November 13, 2024 at the age of 88 years and 1 month.
LaTeer grew up in Comanche and Temple, OK, graduating from Tribbey High School in 1955. He married Cleta Jo Cordray on June 1, 1958 at Hastings Baptist Church. They made their home in Wichita Falls, TX and LaTeer soon began a 20-year career with the U.S. Army which included 2 tours to Vietnam and was also stationed in Germany and Korea. Upon his retirement in 1980, he began another 20-year career delivering mail for the USPS.
Through the years the couple and family lived in Wichita Falls and Levelland, TX, Leesville, LA, Fort Rucker, AL, Columbus, GA, Fairmont, WV, Fort Riley, KS, Joshua, TX and settled at Hastings in 2020. LaTeer taught Sunday School for many years. He loved to work on cars and doing projects, mainly woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; 4 brothers, Joe, Roy, Allen Ray and John; and a sister, Jane.
Survivors include his wife, Cleta Cordray Awtrey of the home in Hastings; 6 children, daughter Karen Kidd and Scott of Louisville, TN, sons Mark Awtrey, Tim Awtrey and son David Awtrey all of Hastings, son Calvin Awtrey of Lucedale, MS, and daughter Pamela Gonzalez of Waynesboro, VA; his sister Linda Briggs of Crescent, OK; 8 grandchildren, Mark Awtrey Jr., Chanse Awtrey, Hannah Mobarak, Rebecca Meza, Trinity Kidd, Zachary Kidd, Aria Gonzalez and Adrienne Gonzalez; and 5 great grandchildren, Shelby, Rylee, Naveen, Christine, and Marianna.
