Clifton Douglas Jones was born to Larnell Jones and Charlie Jones on June 18, 1963 in Richmond, VA. He was the youngest of his four siblings.
While in high school, he was a star basketball player and wrestler. After graduating from Marshall-Walker High School in Richmond, VA he joined the U.S. Air Force in May 1982. He was a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Craftsman and Instructor at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, VA. While in the military he completed coursework towards his Associates degree from Saint Leo Community College and Reynolds Community College. While in the Air Force he saved the lives of high ranking officials by catching a major seat ejection error, served in Desert Storm, and completed a tour in Iceland. He retired honorably in August 2002 after serving 20 years.
Affectionately known as Bam Bam by his family, he tinkered with his toys as a child, then jets, and cars as an adult. You could find him with his bluetooth and a cup of coffee talking about Jesus at any time and anyplace.
He married Amy Francisco, the mother of his only child, Tiffany Little (Jones), shortly after enlistment. They soon moved to Hampton, VA where he laid his roots. He joined New Mount Olive Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the men's choir, and assisted with First Plates for the homeless, among many other roles. He later married Gwendolyn Jones (Kelley) on October 21, 2000, adding a stepson, Michael Kelley, to his family; they remained married, for 24 years, until his untimely passing.
For his family, he became the patriarch, the one they relied on to pray before meals and provide spiritual guidance. For his wife, he was her rock and confidant. For his daughter, he was her foundation and biggest cheerleader. For his church family, he was the fixer, the one they would call when things went wrong.
His kind nature and good spirit drew people to him, with friends near and far. He would go out of his way to help anyone, no matter how tired nor the hour, while never expecting anything in return.
He lived his life for God, knowing that in all good things, God would be glorified in his work.
Proverbs 28:20 – "A faithful man will abound with blessings.
Revelation 2:10 – "Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life."
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at New Mt. Olive Baptist Church,66 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
