Clifton Robert Stephenson

Clifton "Cliff" Robert Stephenson, 89, of Presque Isle, Maine passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025 at the Aroostook House of Comfort, a short distance from where he was born and spent his life.
It was at the, "Hitching Post", a local gathering spot, where he met his beloved wife, Sylvia. They married on September 29, 1956 and shared a devoted partnership that spanned nearly seven decades. They spent 50 years in a home they built and raised their family in on University Street. Sharing holidays, birthdays and many card games with friends and family.
Cliff proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and the National Guard. He spent most of his professional career as a trusted representative for truck and tractor parts for Freightliner of Maine and spent the remainder of his career at Maine Potato Growers where he retired.
As an avid outdoorsman, Cliff found joy in many things from fishing, hunting, and camping with friends and family, to feeding a neighborhood chipmunk out of the palm of his hand. He had a passion for woodwork, upgrading many elements of the family home and birdhouses for their frequent bird guests. He loved spending time in the garden growing some of his favorite vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers in the summer.
Cliff certainly knew how to "cut a rug" and often enjoyed dancing out on the town with his wife and friends, especially to classic rock and roll. He loved a sweet treat, a banana split most of all. He was a lover of, "going for a ride". Especially in his 1987 Chevrolet El Camino SS, with the radio up and the windows down. He will be remembered for his humorous, "one-liners" and his constant ability to put a smile on anyone's face.
Cliff is survived by his beloved wife, Sylvia Stephenson of Presque Isle, his daughter, Vicky Huston and her husband Eric Huston of North Carolina, his son Randy Stephenson, his wife Laurie Stephenson of Mapleton and his stepson Forrest Flagg of Old Town and his cherished granddaughter, Brittany Wezner, and her husband Tyler Wezner of Lyman. He is also survived by his sister, Debbie Hitchcock, and her husband Howard Hitchcock of Presque Isle, along with many cousins, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Fernette Walton-Stephenson of Presque Isle, and his sisters, Marlyin Stephenson-Rivers of Vermont and Brenda M. Stephenson of Presque Isle.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life with a graveside memorial service that will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00am at Fairmont Cemetery located on the Houlton Rd in Presque Isle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cliff's memory to the House of Comfort, where he received compassionate care in his final days.
Cliff will be remembered for his quiet strength, his enduring love for family and lifelong devotion to the land and people of Presque Isle. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all that knew him.
