Clyde Wayne Edwards

Clyde Wayne Edwards, 102, of Johnston City passed away at 5:28 p.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at the Veteran Community Living Center in Marion.
Clyde was born on March 11, 1923, in Johnston City to the late Frank and Alice (Samples) Edwards.
Clyde married Thelma Ruth Stilley on November 4, 1949, in Johnston City. They shared 64 years together before her passing on May 12, 2014.
Clyde joined the United States Marine Corps and served in the Occupation Forces during World War II. He participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Ryukyu Island for fourteen days. He also participated in the occupation of Japan for over seven months. He was able to take two honor flights in his later years.
Clyde worked in maintenance at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale until his retirement. He previously attended First Christian Church of Johnston City and West Frankfort, where he served on the Church Board. Clyde most recently attended Heartland Christian Church in Marion. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Clyde also enjoyed visiting state parks, going to Branson, Dollywood and going out to eat. His favorite music was good Southern Gospel.
He is survived by four children, Mary Ellen Jones of Energy, Melba Yvonne (Kenneth) Miller of Winnsboro, TX, Sandra Kay (Michael) Spezia of Corinth, Lindell Wayne (Debbie) Edwards of Johnston City; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Kenneth (Shirley) Edwards.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Alice Edwards; wife, Thelma Ruth Edwards; several siblings, Paul Edwards, Lorene Becker, Mae Forcum and two infant brothers.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Pastor Greg Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow at Becker Cemetery in Johnston City.
Visitation will be from 12:00 -2:00p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home the day of the service.
