St. George, Utah-Clyde Roper, 85, of St. George Utah passed away on June 9, 2025.

He was born in Lynndyl, Utah in 1939 to Vernon B and Erma Lovell Roper as the fourth of seven children. He grew up near his grandparents and cousins in Oak City and went to school in Delta, Utah. He attended Delta High School and served an LDS mission in the Northern States Mission while studying at BYU where he graduated with his accounting degree. He met Loretta Johns at BYU and they were married in 1962. After graduation they moved to Southern California. He worked as an IRS Auditor and then opened an Accounting and Tax Business. He was an entrepreneur and was one of the first businesses to rent VHS movies. He created and owned multiple Video Shak stores in 4 states. He loved the newest technology and attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas every year. He enjoyed having desk top computers before the typical household had them and recording the family activities and vacations on one of his many portable video cameras.

Clyde is the father of 7 children, 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed road trips, camping and ATV rides. His adventures were shared with his children as they travelled across the United States to visit places and friends. Keeping connections with friends was a treasure for Clyde. Clyde served as the bishop of the Tarzana ward in California. Clyde and Loretta raised their children in Pleasant Grove and Alpine, Utah; Alpine being home for over 30 years.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings, his grandson, Jordan Roper, his great-grandson, Ivar Roper and his great-granddaughter Kaheana Taito. He is survived by his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Lynette, Kristine (Toshi) Ah Quin, Scott (Becky), Greg, Jeff (Melissa), Karen (Kasey) Jorgensen and Janeen (Patrick) Ledkins, his 27 grandchildren and his 21 great-grandchildren. His sisters Janece Roper Tolbert, Rebecca (Rick) Child and his brother Steve (Barb) Roper. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

We'll always think of you, Dad, when we eat Mi Ranchito and drink Mt Dew.

Thank you for making our world bigger. Clyde will be laid to rest in the Alpine City Cemetery. There will be light refreshments for friends and family that wish to celebrate Clyde at the Legacy Park located at 65 E 100 S, Alpine, UT 84004 and we will be near the City Hall, June 14, 2025 at 1:30pm.
