Clyde V Teague, 97, died Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Asbury Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Clyde was born on July 25th, 1928, in
Union, SC, the sixth of nine children born to David and Lottie Teague. He moved to Charlotte in the mid-1950s.
A linotype operator by trade, Clyde was owner of Acme Typesetting, Inc. Prior to opening his business in 1973, he worked as a typesetter at several newspapers throughout the region and in South Carolina, including the Charlotte News. He also worked for typesetting and printing companies in Charlotte and Greensboro.
Clyde was a member of First Baptist Church, Charlotte and later University City United Methodist Church. Even as a young man, before he had his own family, Clyde was an active and dedicated member of First Baptist, serving first as a leader of Royal Ambassadors, a Southern Baptist missions discipleship program for boys and young men. Later, he helped develop a Baptist sports league that started with boys' baseball and later grew to include boys' and girls' basketball. He also taught Sunday School and served on numerous church committees through the years.
Clyde was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Teague Domienik, of Cincinnati, OH, his wife, Ruby Griffith Teague, and his brothers and sisters. When Ruby was diagnosed with early dementia, and later Alzheimer's Disease, Clyde took care of her at home for more than 10 years, learned to cook, and became especially known for his chocolate chess pies and breakfast casseroles. When Ruby moved into a nursing home, Clyde would join her for lunch almost every day until her death.
Clyde was an avid gardener, who enjoyed sharing his produce with anyone who stopped by. He was a faithful friend and family member, with a mischievous grin, and an iron grip that sometimes made boys and men afraid to shake his hand. He enjoyed practical jokes and finding typos in printed articles. He also enjoyed trying to convince people that he was meaner than he was, but he could never keep it up very long before that grin would resurface.
Clyde is survived by his son, David Teague, of Charlotte; a grandson, Adam Teague (Julianna) of Waynesville, NC; a granddaughter, Lynnea Domienik of Chicago, IL; a son-in-law, Steven Steinberger-Domienik (Brenda), of Brighton, MI; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Asbury Health and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care shown to Clyde during the years he spent there.
The Teague family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them during this time.
Services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, in the funeral home chapel, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road,
Matthews, NC 28105. Interment will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road,
