It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Colonel (Retired) Charles Alan Stock of Pittsburgh, PA, on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Chuck was born on March 23, 1956, the second of five children to the late Harry and Doris Stock of Jefferson Hills. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1974, Chuck enlisted with the United States Air Force, served almost 5 years and was honorably discharged in 1979. He returned to Pittsburgh, earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine in August 1992, completed a one-year residency with Pitt Dental School, and then opened a dental practice in Hazelwood, PA for a couple of years. In 1995, the military life beckoned again, and Chuck was commissioned as an Officer in the USAF and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. It was there that he met many of his current golf buddies and lifelong friends. He also met his wife, Donna, during this assignment and they were married in November 1997. From Eglin, Chuck served a remote assignment at Osan Air Base in Korea where he met his Adashi buddies, and then returned to Eglin AFB for 3 more years. Chuck then went to Lackland AFB in Texas and completed a 3 year Prosthodontics Residency and became a Board Certified Prosthodontist. For the remainder of his 28 year career, he was stationed at Bolling Air Force Base, Kadena Air Base in Japan, Ramstein Air Base in Germany and Joint Base Andrews retiring in 2018.

Chuck was larger than life and his personality could fill a room. His positivity was infectious. He was kind, generous with both time and money, fun-loving, gregarious, easy going, mild-mannered, and he could strike up a conversation with random strangers anywhere in the world, especially if they had Pittsburgh sports gear on. He was well-respected among his peers and colleagues, as well as his troops. He had a huge heart and loved fiercely, especially his family - both the family he was born into and the family he gained through marriage, as well as all of his buddies and the furry critters that were a huge part of his life. Chuck was a very loyal and dependable man going out of his way to help others. He built life-long relationships with the people he went to school with, the people he served in the military with, and the people he enjoyed sports with. His male friends were all “brothers” to him.

Chuck was an avid sportsman who was an excellent bowler and golfer, and loved anything outdoors, including hunting and fishing. In his later years, besides bowling and golfing in leagues, he enjoyed walking his dogs, riding his Harley, and going on long walks and bike rides. Travel was always on the agenda and Chuck visited many countries with his wife and traveled extensively in the USA and Canada. Chuck LIVED life and was not afraid to be a risk-taker. He squeezed as much enjoyment out of each day as possible. He was the unofficial recreation director at every clinic he worked at, setting up whiffle ball tournaments and home run derby’s, inserting camaraderie and fun into an often-stressful environment.

Preceded in death by his parents, Charles is survived by his wife of 27 years, Donna (McMahon) Stock; his dogs Lucy and Finley; his four siblings, Harry (Phyllis) Stock III, Glenn (Donna) Stock, Janet (George) Lion, Debbie (Jim) Mayher, all of the Pittsburgh area; sisters-in-law Melody (Darrell) Hawryluk, Crystal (Todd Campbell) McMahon, Kathy Siatecki, all from Manitoba, Canada and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and cousins in both the United States and Canada.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, October 15th, 2024, at Butler’s Golf Course 800 Rock Run Road, Elizabeth, PA 15037 with visitation and a Celebration of Chuck’s life from 9:30 am to 12 Noon. His inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017 at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are by the Stephen D.
