Sadly, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Colleen D. Bord. She entered heaven with her pure soul on Monday, March 14, 2022 with her family at her side praying and singing. We are so blessed to have been surrounded by her generosity and love.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 on Friday March 18, 2022 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Alan Guanella will officiate the service. The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday morning at the church from 9:00 AM -11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids.
Colleen was born on Good Friday, April 15, 1927 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. She was the youngest of five children born to Albert Weiler, a farmer, and Margaret (Bruders) Weiler, a milliner, from rural Auburndale. Colleen attended Clover Nook, a one room school house near her home, St. Mary's Catholic School in Auburndale until she received her Solemn Holy Communion and graduated from Auburndale High School in 1944. While in school, she worked in a factory separating eggs which were then dried for WWII soldiers. Her sister June took her to Seattle, WA as a graduation gift. There they waitressed in the officer's club at Fort Lewis. She also did piece work making officer's wool coats where she excelled in quality and speed. When she returned from WA, Colleen worked for an insurance company. A young man named Jim came in to make a claim as his brother totaled his vehicle while he was serving our country. The adjuster was out, but Jim stayed all day. James R. Bord became her bridegroom on June 22, 1949 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburndale. Jim's cousin Rev. Donald J. Boyarski officiated their wedding, which was the first couple he married. Colleen later waitressed at Wilbern's Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge. She also assisted Jim in coordinating jobs for the electrician's union. While raising her children she attended Mid State Technical School. She had a sharp mind for numbers. She used this the next 18 years as an accounting clerk in the Wisconsin Rapids City Clerk's Office where she was also a union steward. Everywhere Colleen went she enlightened others and made lifelong friends.
Colleen's goodness radiated from her. She was kind and accepting of everyone and so giving. She allowed the football kids to keep their equipment in her back porch. Her cookie jar constantly rattled from her kids and their friends. She was open minded and comfortably confident yet humble. Colleen freely gave guidance and prayed for everyone. Her faith and family were her core. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and was a family historian. Colleen's door was open to all where she abundantly gave hugs and kisses and welcomed you. She had impeccable manners and always expressed her gratitude. She offered shelter in her home to extended family.
Colleen was spunky and fun. She had a level of perfection which was displayed in a beautifully set table, her daughter's wedding gown which she made, and the cozy and beautiful décor of her home. Colleen was classy dresser with a keen eye for fashion and decorating. She enjoyed looking at fashion and house magazines, driving by houses and shopping always looking for new ideas and a bargain. She was a skilled seamstress and made most of her family's clothing and household decorations. She shared her abilities with everyone including leading Brownie and Girl Scout Troops, helping with Home Economic projects, baking and cooking and lending a helping hand wherever needed. She loved to play cards and taught many to play 500 Rummy and Sheepshead. She and Jim belonged to an Auburndale Couples Sheepshead Group which gathered in each of their homes for over 50 years. Her kids call the mixture of chips, Bugles and Cheetos "card club" as the snacks left from their gatherings were a welcomed treat. She was a competitive Wheel of Fortune watcher in which she and Jim bet small candy bars then forever calling it "The Candy Bar Show". She belonged to Catholic Daughters for over 60 years.
Colleen is lovingly survived by her children: Bonnie (Mark G.) Grundman, James P. (Carol) Bord, Colleen (Gordon) Foth, Mary (Kirk) Gillette, William (Teri) Bord and Rebecca (Timothy) Wirtz; grandchildren: Shannon (Kenneth) Lynch, Mark J. (Megan) Grundman, James R.
