Colleen Sue (McCormick) Coburn – March 4, 1954, to October 16, 2025
Colleen Coburn, 71, of Toledo, OH, passed away on October 16, 2025, in her home, where she lived for the last 51 years. A large void has been left in the family with her passing. An avid cook and baker, Colleen kept her family well fed with classic comfort food as well as much enjoyed Hungarian staples. Her Christmas Cookie bonanza will be missed by everyone. Colleen made her love of cooking her job, spending several years at the Franciscan Care Center as the head cook. She enjoyed spoiling the residents as much as she did her family.
Colleen loved to garden, and it showed in her butterfly garden and annual vegetable garden. She was always finding new plants, garden ornaments, and feeders to attract the butterflies and native birds, and then just sit back and enjoy the fruits of her labors. A former member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, she loved going out on Lake Erie to fish for walleye and perch, and usually was the one with the most at the end of the day. While she had many hobbies and interests, she found her greatest joy with her husband of 16 years, her children, and grandchildren. From family vacations that always had a crazy story to them, to the inside jokes that only made sense between you and her. She could always find the silver lining in anything.
Born in South Toledo to Art and Gloria McCormick, Colleen was a member of St. James Catholic Church, and a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Gloria (Arvay) McCormick, and her much loved and adored husband, Kenneth Coburn, and her brother in law, Rich Michalak. Colleen is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Erik Ruhling) Coburn; son, Brian (Rebecca) Coburn; grandchildren (the light of her life), Anneliese, Astrid, and Alice Ruhling; sister, Carolyn McCormick; and brothers Kevin (Bernadette) McCormick, and Tim McCormick.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 9am to 11am, with a prayer service at 11am at Walter Funeral home, 4653 Glendale Ave., Toledo, OH 43614. Burial will be private.
