Colton Treadwell June 26, 2001 – March 14, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Colton James Treadwell, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. Colton passed away at the age of 23 from heart complications related to Friedreich's Ataxia. He is survived by his loving parents, James and Tamera Treadwell, his four siblings, Dillon Brunetti and his wife Genevieve, Melissa Brunetti and her wife Clarissa, Ashley Spero, and Brie Treadwell, his cherished niece Jade, and his nephews Maclin and Miles.
Born on Fort Polk in Louisiana, Colton lived in California before settling in North Carolina, where he grew into an exceptional young man. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts with two majors: Germanic and Slavic Languages and Peace, War, and Defense. During his academic career, Colton was recognized for his outstanding achievements, earning the prestigious Paul E. Debreczeny Prize for excellence in Slavic Languages and Literatures. In 2022, he took part in the Critical Language Scholarship Program in Tbilisi, Georgia, studying Russian language, demonstrating his passion for learning and exploring new cultures.
Despite facing the challenges of Friedreich's Ataxia, Colton lived a life full of love, meaning, and connection. He enjoyed video games as it became a way to bond with those he held dear, creating lasting memories with family and friends. He had a sharp mind and a hilarious sense of humor, never letting his physical limitations prevent him from making an impact on those around him.
Colton was known for his keen intellect, engaging in spirited political debates with friends, and for the joy he found in creating funny "Garfie" videos that brought laughter to many. More than anything, Colton was a beacon of support and kindness to those who knew him. He offered grace and forgiveness when others felt undeserving and stood by his friends and family during their hardest moments, providing comfort and care through their struggles.
Though his time with us was far too short, Colton's impact will be felt for years to come. His intelligence, wit, and compassion were gifts to all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.
A service to honor Colton's life is planned to be held on his birthday with details forthcoming.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
