Connie Lou Buffalohead was born October 6, 1951 in Enid, Oklahoma to Lewis “Bus” and Norma Adkisson and passed away on July 31, 2023. In her younger years she lived on a farm in Ringwood where she helped her father. They raised chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and horses. While she was in school, she was active in Ag, 4H, Basketball, and Cheer. She graduated in May 1969 from Ringwood High School. After her firstborn daughter, Jennifer, was born she went to NWOSU in Alva to become a teacher and graduated in 1973. She met Kenneth Pat Buffalohead and they got married August 9, 1973. They moved to Okmulgee where she taught at Nuyaka School. They moved to Del City in 1976 where she taught at several schools with Wheeler Elementary in Oklahoma City being her favorite because of her love for the kids there. Connie loved teaching and meeting new people. She had the best laugh and never met a stranger. In her spare time she coached basketball and softball. She wrote a math book in the summer of 1985. She studied to be Reading Specialist at Central State University and got her Masters Degree there in 1988. She moved to Helena and got a job at Helena-Golty School as a Title I Reading Teacher in 1990. Then the school became Timberlake Schools in 1993. Connie retired in 2017. After retirement she raised goats on the farm and she and Kenneth spent a lot of time at thrift stores. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.
Connie is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Lewis and Norma; her sisters, Sharon Ruth and Freda Jo and grandparents, Jess and Ruby Cronin.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Fishback and husband, Rob of Helena; sons, Shadlow Buffalohead of Ringwood and Kendal Buffalohead and wife, Gracie of Sapulpa; grandchildren, Miranda Fishback and husband, Rowdy of Helena, Kolton Fishback of Alva, Skylar Fishback of Helena, Shadlow Buffalohead II and wife, Alexis of Enid, Jeramiah Buffalohead of Enid, Micah Buffalohead of Enid, Caleb Buffalohead, Maria Buffalohead and Chief Benjamin of Sapulpa; great grandchildren, Rayne Jocelyn, Kaydn, Adaline, Emmalynn, and Eastin.
Funeral service for Connie will be Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Timberlake High School Auditorium. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery with arrangements by Lanman Funeral Home, Inc. of Helena.
