Carrollton Twp., Michigan

Beloved sister, aunt and friend passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at her home. Age 91 years. The daughter of the late Ambrose and Toribia (Suarez) Casarez, Connie was born on December 7, 1933 in Sebewaing, Michigan. She married Vincent Castanon on April 11, 1970. He predeceased her on September 8, 2001. Connie worked for Michigan National Bank. She then furthered her education and earned her Bachelor's Degree from Saginaw Valley State University. After earning her degree, Connie worked within the Saginaw Public Schools in various teaching positions. Connie had a deep and devout Catholic faith and was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Church and St. John Paul II Catholic Church where she volunteered countless hours as a lector and being a member of the choir. Connie was very proud to be commissioned as a permanent Hispanic Lay Minister for the Diocese of Saginaw.

Surviving is one sister, Margaret Gonzales; her nieces and nephews, Ann Wamback, Steve Gonzales, Mike Gonzales, Patricia Huhn-Espinoza, Susan Marcoux, Laura Espinoza, Patrick Jaime, Christopher Jaime, Jennifer Chaira, Teresa Jaime-Peraza, John Jaime, Cathy Beck, Chris Guevara, James Guevara and David Casarez; many great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family. Connie was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Casarez, Judy Jaime, Rose Guevara, Jesse Casarez, Frank Casarez, Michael Casarez, Leo Casarez and Josephine Espinoza; her nephews, Julian Guevara and Anthony Espinoza.

Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2025 at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 469 Shattuck Rd. Honoring Connie's wishes, cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the church where the family will be present on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. John Paul II Parish or St. Clare Sisters c/o Wheaton Franciscans, 26 West 171 Roosevelt Road, P.O. Box 667, Wheaton, Illinois 60187. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., Saginaw, Michigan.
