Karen Sue (Davenport) Kania May 29, 1954 - September 16, 2025
Karen Sue Kania of Freeland and Oscoda, MI, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side, on September 16, 2025, at the age of 71. Karen was born May 29, 1954, to the late Walton and Donna (Harris) Davenport.
Karen was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother (GheeGhee). She married Jonathon Kania on September 5, 1975, and together they shared a life filled with love, joy, and countless memories. She was an amazing mother to the late Jonathon Austin Kania II and Kelly Sue (Nicholas) Baker. Karen's legacy lives on through her four beloved grandchildren: Nathan, Leah, Jack, and Emma Baker, whom she adored and treasured every moment spent with them.
Surviving are her sisters and their spouses that she loved dearly; Sandy (Rick) Poineau, Kathy Griffore, and Tammy (Bill) Krohn. She was predeceased by her son, parents, brother Walton Davenport, sister Janis Mahler, and her nephews Ricky Poineau Jr., Tyler Krohn, Kristopher Mahler, and Eric Davenport. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Jacilene Martin; sister-in-law, Stephanie Kania; and brothers-in-law, Christopher Kania and William Griffore.
Karen's love extended to her many nieces and nephews, who were always close to her heart. She had a passion for life that shone through in everything she did. Whether it was her frequent trips to the casino or the cherished moments she spent in Destin, sitting on her favorite balcony with her cousin Beth Meisel, Karen truly appreciated the simple pleasures that made life special.
Above all, Karen was a family woman. Her love for her family was fierce and unwavering, and she took great pride in nurturing her relationships with them. She was a warm, kind, and generous soul who brought joy to all who were close to her. Karen's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her and she will be deeply missed.
To honor Karen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be planned at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Karen's love for life and family and hold your loved ones close.
