Carol L. Socha
Saginaw, MichiganA beautiful and passionate soul, Carol Socha's favorite adventure was traveling to New York City with her husband and best friend, Terry Huth, to see Broadway Shows, eat at the finest restaurants, and go to Macy's Fifth Floor Fur Vault to buy a fur collar for her birthday to add to her growing collection!
Carol L. Socha, beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. She was born in Norway, Michigan on February 21, 1950, to the late Francis J. and Florence L. Socha. She married Terry S. Huth in Bay City on June 14, 1986.
Socha had a spectacular career in education and was the Superintendent of Tuscola Intermediate School District in Caro, Michigan since July 2001, retiring at the end of 2010. She had been employed by Tuscola ISD since 1989, as Assistant Principal, and then Principal of the Tuscola Technology Center, followed by 5 years as Assistant Superintendent. From 1972 to 1989, she was employed by the Saginaw Township Community Schools as a teacher, Career and Vocational Education Consultant, and assistant principal. She loved every job she had and loved students and working with people from all walks of life. Carol graduated from Michigan State University in 1972 and then completed her Masters' Degree and Education specialist from Central Michigan University.
She was a member of Christ the Good Shephard Church (formerly St. Helen's) in
Saginaw, Michigan. She was the "President for Life" of the BIGE organization, an esteemed group of professionals from Business, Industry, Government, and Education.
Socha and her husband frequently visited her family in Norway, Michigan. They shared vacations to Hilton Head, South Carolina, Nantucket Island, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, New York City, England, Belgium, Guernsey in the Channel Islands, and the Caymen Islands. Carol especially loved New York City with its air of excitement and Broadway Shows.
Carol and Terry shared the love of their beautiful cats, Redfield, Nutmeg, Feller, Ferdynand, Bogard and Bacall.
Carol became an avid walker in 1992, sometimes walking as many as 5 to 6 miles per day, enjoyed Jazzercise for 7 years, and then became a swimmer after suffering from back problems. She had several other joys in life including spending time with special friends, cooking, fishing, decorating, photography, shopping for things "she could not live without" and making and buying gifts for friends. She collected antique fur coats, collars, and hats from the 1940's. She loved to write and always published a newsletter for her staff which included motivational quotes from great authors. She wrote personalized books for family and friends for special occasions. Carol had a wonderful sense of humor and, even through dilemmas, could see the humor in a situation. Her greatest attribute was giving praise and encouragement to others, always with a smile on her face.
She is predeceased by her parents, Francis J. and Florence L. Socha, whom she loved dearly.
Carol leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 39 years, Terry Huth; her sister, Susan (Michael) LaFave, Lena, Wisconsin; her niece, Amanda LaFave; her nephew, Adam LaFave; many dear cousins and many, many very close friends including her lifelong friend, Joyce Dzik and her husband Arvo, Kim and Tim Day, George and Mary Bush, David and Louise Jenkins from Grayingham, England and Guernsey. She also leaves Stacy McGlinnen and Kari Deck who were like daughters to her. They are the daughters of her late great friend, Janet Russell. She leaves great friends she grew up with in Norway, Michigan, Beth Henrion, Karen Kayne, and Rob Olsen. She leaves her special friends, Susie Somerville and Linda Engelhardt. Carol leaves hundreds of beloved and respected colleagues and friends from Tuscola Intermediate School District and former Saginaw Township Community School teachers and administrators. She also leaves her beloved cats, Bogart and Bacall.
Carol touched the hearts of all she knew with her warmth, humor, and extraordinary generosity. Her home was a hug and a delicious homemade dinner! Her laugh, the sun. Above all else she loved. Her smile could light up anyone on a cold crisp, 20 below zero winter day. She was one beautiful woman!
She left this world telling all to treat others with kindness, forgive someone who has wronged you, accept people as they are, and above all, love your family and friends.
Honoring her wishes, Carol has been cremated. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Christ the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2445 N. Charles St. Rev. Fr.
