Galen A. Shepard

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025, at his home. Age 84 years. Son of the late Lenwood and Arline (Ayers) Shepard, Galen was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas. He married the love of his life, Janet I. Kowalski on May 13, 1967. She survives him. Galen graduated from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He worked 44 years in the foundry industry, retiring from General Motors in 1999 and then retiring from Grede Vassar in 2006. He loved solving puzzles and was never far from his Sudoku or crossword puzzle books. He had a private pilot's license and was always attentive to any airplanes that were in sight.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet; his daughter, Shari Shepard and her husband Matthew Hurd, New York City; and his son, Gary and Laura Shepard, Freeland, Michigan. He was very proud of and enjoyed six grandchildren, Gibson, Graham, Morgan and Makenzie Shepard and John and Jane Hurd. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law, Lucille Yeager. Galen was preceded in death by one brother, Lenwood Shepard.
A private funeral service has taken place. Honoring Mr. Shepard's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment in St. Andrew Cemetery.
