Barry Lee Brown Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved father and grandfather passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, November 10, 2025. Age 81 years. Son of the late Carmen and Birdine (Wilber) Brown, Barry was born August 11, 1944, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He married Carol S. Johnson, his loving wife of 55 years, on June 17, 1967. She predeceased him on November 9, 2022. Barry enjoyed and excelled at sports like football, baseball, and basketball in his middle and high school years. This passion for competition also defined aspects of his adult life, finding camaraderie and family fun in sports like golf, bowling, and softball. Barry earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business from Michigan State University and began his career in Lansing before moving to Saginaw in 1976 with his growing family. He worked as an executive with Pioneer Sugar, Michigan Sugar Company, and Savannah Food Corporation. Barry volunteered in many capacities in his community, ranging from coach and umpire at South Little League Baseball to Saginaw Township school board president. He was a proud member of Maple Hill Golf Club for many years, and enjoyed assisting with and participating in events such as the Littlest Angels Tournament. After Barry and Carol retired, they spent much of their time traveling to see friends and family, including many winters residing in Ft Myers, Florida. Barry continued this tradition of family visits even after Carol passed, achieving a personal goal of seeing all of their grandchildren graduate from their respective high schools and move onto college.
Surviving to cherish his memory are two sons, Jason (Cheryl) Brown of Summerville, South Carolina; Adam (Kristy) Brown of Falmouth, Massachusetts; and four grandchildren, Ben, Andrew, Spencer, and Rory Brown; two brothers, Jim (Jane) Welbes of Charlotte, Michigan; John (Cori) Welbes of Beverly Hills, Florida; many nieces and nephews. Barry was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Welbes.
Honoring Mr. Brown's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place at a time yet to be determined at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Road in Saginaw, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to First United Methodist Church at 4790 Gratiot Road, Saginaw, Michigan or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Road in Saginaw, Michigan. Please share memories and condolences with the family at snowfuneralhome.net
