Donald D. "Sonny" Manial Saginaw Twp., Michigan
Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at his home with his family by his side. Age 95 years. The son of the late Frank and Isabel (Pieprzyk) Manial, Don was born on February 15, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan. He married Eileen Cottrell on November 4, 1950. She predeceased him on May 12, 2014. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the Military Police from 1951 until 1953. Following his service, he joined the Saginaw City Fire Department, where he dedicated 25 years of service, retiring in 1985 as a Lieutenant. A skilled craftsman, Don enjoyed woodworking and home improvement projects. For nearly 30 years, he worked for a local contractor specializing in window and door installations. Always generous with his time and talents, he was the first to lend a helping hand to family and friends with their projects. Don also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and his greatest joy came from spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are one son and one daughter, David (Carla Gregus) Manial, Freeland; Kelly (James) Talik, Butler, Indiana; two grandchildren, Nicole (Ben) Steury, Austin (Taylor) Talik; three step-grandchildren, Paul (Jessie) Gregus, Kyle Gregus and Tera Krish; seven great-grandchildren, Remington, Huck, Beckham, Claire, Brooks, Gavin (Ori) and Gabe; a great-great-granddaughter, Silvia; a brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Manial; a sister-in-law, Noreen "Pug" Carrigan; many nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra Manial; his siblings, Ronald (Diane) Manial, Janet (Robert) Kirby and Mary (William) Thumme.
Don's family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Covenant At Home Hospice for their loving and compassionate care over the past 3 years.
