Funeral services for Connie Elizabeth (Rodgers) Gleis, 74, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Trinity Baptist Church. Ms. Gleis passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in Nacogdoches. She was born on June 28, 1951, in Lubbock to the late Charles Roy Rodgers and Bobbie Jean (Mitchell) Chester.
Full of energy and more spunk than most, Connie was a force to be reckoned with. Her independence and stubbornness simply made her the family boss! She loved deeply and had a heart of gold. Her abounding happiness came from the ones she loved the most and being surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and other family members were the highlight of her days. Days spent at the park with the grandkids were her favorite. She enjoyed arts and crafts and watching old western shows, the hallmark channel or laughing along with Tom and Jerry. However, no matter where she was or what she was doing, she was bound to have a Dr. Pepper or a sweet tea in her hands! Her humor and wit was something special about her and would bring her so much joy as she played jokes on everyone, gave them a hard time and picked on them every chance she got.
Connie had a soft spot for children and was dedicated to supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital but her most rewarding times came from teaching her "church babies"in Sunday School and children's church. The impact she had on those she taught will be everlasting in their lives. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, including being involved with the Sunsetter Group and her love of God was observed in her daily life. She always witnessed folks with every moment she had, right up until her last days as she did so to her doctor in ICU.
Connie is survived by her son, Duane Gleis and wife Tiffany; grandchildren, Michael Gleis, Kadence Gleis and Sidney Soto-Pedraza and husband, Omar; great grandchildren, Braiden Northcutt, Lanel Soto-Pedraza, Gabriela Soto-Pedraza and AJ Soto-Pedraza; sisters, Charlene Lopez and Diane Jaquess; special nieces, Sue Reynoso and Laci Simbulan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friend, Billy Slaughter and other family members and friends that she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved "Granny" and the father of her son, Michael J. Gleis.
