Connie Latimore Obituary

On January 25, 1947, in Washington, D.C., God blessed the world with the life of Connie Latimore. On October 26, 2025, at her home in Fountain, Colorado, He gently called His faithful servant back to Him. Though her earthly journey has ended, her eternal peace has begun, and her spirit remains alive in all who loved her.
Connie was a proud graduate of Armstrong High School and went on to serve over 25 years as a Library Technician at the U.S. Census Bureau. She carried herself with humility, diligence, and quiet strength-working as though serving the Lord in every task. Her integrity, kindness, and gentle leadership made her a light in every place she stood.
But Connie's true ministry was beyond her job title. Her life was an offering. She served with a heart shaped by compassion, a spirit strengthened by faith, and a love rooted deeply in God. Whether she was listening to someone in pain, speaking life into a troubled heart, or giving without being asked, Connie lived out God's command to serve one another in love.
Writing was one of the gifts God placed in her. Through her words, she comforted, encouraged, and reminded others of God's presence. Her pen was a vessel of spiritual wisdom.
Connie's journey was not easy. Her voice was often silenced, her self-esteem shaken, yet by God's grace she persevered. With resilience that could only come from the Lord, she raised four remarkable children who continue to walk in the values she lived by-faith, love, compassion, and service. Her life was her testimony.
Connie was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Virginia Webster; her father, Carroll Eldridge Porter, Sr.; her sister, Jackie Celina Porter; and her brother, Carroll Eldridge Porter, Jr. We rejoice knowing she is reunited with them in the presence of the Lord.
She leaves behind to celebrate her life her sister, Shirley W. Johnson; her brother, Wayne Porter; her beloved children, Kim Jones, Donna Shelton, Mark Simmons, Sr., and Bryant Simmons, Sr.; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were forever changed by her faith and her love.
Connie lived by the truth of Mark 10:45: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve."
She embodied this verse. Service was not something she did-it was who she was in Christ. Her children carry that same spirit today, standing as the living continuation of her faith, her strength, and her example.
Her life was a testimony of God's goodness. Her walk was marked by humility, grace, and perseverance. And her love-steadfast, unshakable, Christ-centered-was her greatest legacy. Through every trial and every triumph, Connie showed what it meant to be a woman of God.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Connie's legacy by donating to organizations that uplift women and families in need, including the National Council of Negro Women, African Women Rising, or the African American Breastfeeding Network. Your giving continues the work she began-serving others with love.
According to Connie's wishes, her ashes will be laid to rest in Maryland and Washington, D.C., in early spring 2026. Final details will be shared as plans are completed.
