Connie A. Smith, a beacon of loving-kindness and selflessness, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, at the age of 73. Born on February 8, 1951, in Camden, New Jersey, Connie's life was a testament to the strength and warmth of her spirit.
As the beloved daughter of Herbert and Thelma Baker, Connie grew up with a deep sense of family and community that she carried with her throughout her life. Her parents and her devoted husband, Frederick Smith Sr., preceded her in death, but the love they shared continues to resonate in the lives of those she touched.
Connie's legacy lives on through her cherished children: Frederick "Freddie" Smith, Jr. (Kim Burris), Deborah Puckett, Donna Smith, and Lisa Smith. Each of them embodies her virtues and her unwavering commitment to family. Her siblings, Richard Dale Baker, Barbara Jean Durbin, and Janet Mae Baker, also survive her, and together they share a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and love.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Connie's passion for the Philadelphia Eagles was unmatched. Her joy was palpable whether she was cheering on her favorite team or watching her son Freddie speed across the race track. Soap operas provided a daily dose of drama and entertainment, and she never missed an episode, often discussing the latest twists and turns with friends and family.
Connie's fur babies held a special place in her heart. The time she spent with her beloved pets reflected her nurturing soul, and her fur kids were a constant source of companionship and unconditional love.
Those who knew Connie best would describe her as spunky and feisty, but above all, loving, kind and caring. She approached everyone she met with an open heart, and her selfless nature meant she often put the needs of others before her own. Her presence in a room was a source of comfort and joy, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we remember Connie, we are reminded of the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Connie's memory will continue to inspire us to live with compassion and to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones.
Connie's life was a beautiful journey that touched many paths. While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary person she was and the countless ways she enriched our lives. Her spirit and love will forever be a guiding light for her family, friends, and all who knew her.
