Connie Faye Schultz Welker, age 75, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on August 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Connie was born on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948, to William Gustava Schultz and Allene Joy Rusche Schultz in Kermit, Texas. Connie grew up in Wink, Texas, and was a proud Wink Wildcat class of 1966. She enjoyed cheerleading and playing tennis in her younger years. After graduating from Wink High School in 1966, she took a summer job at El Paso Natural Gas as a receptionist, where she met the love of her life, Douglas Scott Welker. Douglas and Connie wed in Bowie, AZ, on March 2, 1968. They lived in Jal, New Mexico, for the first year of their marriage, then moved to El Paso, Texas. Connie had her first child, Jason Douglas, in 1973. Douglas and Connie then moved to Houston, where they welcomed Kristen Leigh in 1977.
Connie was passionate about her education. She was a registered dental assistant and held various positions throughout her life in the industry. Although Connie dedicated her life to family and raising her kids, she found time to become a certified medical assistant in her empty nest years. She worked for Spring Branch ISD for many years as a nurse assistant.
Connie enjoyed her retirement years as a full-time grandma living in La Grange. She spent time going to baseball games, relaxing in her pool, and tending to her beautiful yard. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She made several new friends here in La Grange and was an active member of The Daytime Divas, part of the Red Hat Society.
Connie was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Douglas, and her parents, William "Bill" and Allene Schultz. She is survived by her son, Jason, and his wife, Tana, and her daughter Kristen Welker Cox; her grandchildren, Abbygail and Cy Welker and Claire and Paige Cox.
The family requests that all flowers and cards are sent to Fayette Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Connie’s memory may be made to PanCan on her tribute page:
