Connie Meng of Canton peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Born on May 12, 1939, she was the daughter of A. Michael and Margaret (Peg) Meng of Canton. After graduating from St. Lawrence University in 1961, she moved to New York to attend acting school. In 1964, she appeared on Broadway in "Foxy" with Bert Lahr and throughout the 60s appeared in numerous TV commercials and regional theatre productions. In 1968, she relocated to Nassau in the Bahamas to perform at the Paradise Island Casino and on the Norwegian cruise ship, the Sunward.
Connie returned to the states in 1970 to attend the University of Michigan where she received an MA in Theatre. She then attended the University of Denver, where she studied for a PhD and taught acting. In 1980, she moved back to New York to work as a Musical Director and pianist. In NY she played in various pit orchestras both On and Off Broadway and conducted in regional theatres throughout the country. She was also a rehearsal pianist for the Rockettes.
In 1998, Connie moved back to Canton to be near her mother, where she put together some student reviews for St. Lawrence University. In 2000, she was hired by North Country Public Radio as an announcer and Theatre Critic. Connie wrote over 500 theatre reviews, showcasing regional plays and musicals, and boosting the profiles of North Country theatre. She retired in 2016. She then became active in Grasse River Heritage and the Any Music Singers. Connie also enjoyed extensive foreign travel.
Connie Meng was predeceased by her parents and her only sister, Gretchen Meng. There will be no service or memorial at the request of the deceased.
