Retired teacher and educational entrepreneur, Constance "Connie" Sue (Leiter) Sackl passed peacefully on April 26, 2022 at the age of 85, with family by her side. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, John, her daughter Lisa Rogers (Don) of Cincinnati, OH; son-in-law Mark Tripp of Winchester, VA; nephew Mike Strine (Edie) of Batavia, OH; and grandchildren Chris Tripp (Mariah) of Nashville, TN, Rachel Tripp of Winchester, VA, and Kevin, Kyle, and Grant Rogers of Cincinnati, OH. Connie is preceded in death by her dear daughter, Terri Tripp, and sister, Linda Bell.
Connie was born on July 28, 1936, in Ashland, OH, to Raymond and Pauline Leiter. Following her graduation from Ashland High School, she attended Ohio University where she obtained her teaching certificate after two years of study, and met the love of her life, John, with whom she recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. She would later receive her bachelor's degree in education from Baldwin-Wallace College. Connie's love of teaching and children blossomed over the years as she taught second grade in the Cleveland and Fairview Park, OH school systems, became a professor of Early Childhood Education at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, OH, was a director/teacher at Hope Ridge Methodist Church in Concord Township, OH, and finished her career as the founder and co-owner of Caring Tree Preschool in Kirtland, where she taught and administered from 1979-1995.
Connie enjoyed many years of volunteering and being active in the communities in which she lived. She loved her time at Family Planning, the Western Reserve Jr. Service League, and Leadership Lake County. Her church community at First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs, FL, where she served as a deacon, was near and dear to her heart.
Lovingly called "Grammy" by her five grandchildren, she recently was able to attend her eldest grandchild's wedding in Nashville. An avid golfer, she loved to travel with John, family, and friends. Her lifelong affinity for music began at a young age as she learned to play the bassoon and piano, and enjoyed singing in her church choir.
The family would like to thank Connie's friends who prayed for her, visited and called her, and especially the wonderful nurses, aides, and staff of Queen City Hospice who helped John care for Connie for the past three years.
A memorial service and internment for Connie will be held in Bonita Springs, FL at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs. A reception to follow.
Donations in memory of Connie Sackl can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Bonita Springs Missions.
