Cora Gladys James

Cora Gladys James, 87, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 at The Gardens at Cuyahoga Falls Assisted Living facility.

As Cora slept, she was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ to be reunited with her lifelong love and soulmate Edward F James, who had been called home in 2015.

Cora, the youngest of 7 children, was born in 1937, to Ralph and Minnie Simmons in Spencer, West Virginia.

After Cora moved from Spencer to Akron, Ohio, she met Edward, they fell in love, and married in 1955 and stayed devoted to each other until Edward passed away in 2015.

Cora was an avid reader of mysteries and loved sports. Her favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians and The Ohio State Buckeyes, with also a loyalty to the West Virginia Mountaineers. Cora and Ed were also longtime participants and supporters in the Cuyahoga Falls Little League and pee wee football organizations.

Cora was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her daughter in law Theresa James and granddaughter Shannon James.

She will be missed by her sons Jerry (Linda), Edward A (Lee Ann), Karl, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, sister Nancy (Dave) Elrod, and 10 nieces and nephews.

On Friday, November 21st, 2025, at Clifford Shoemaker Funeral Home, there will be a visitation from 10:30-11:30am, followed by a service until 12:00. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
