Corey James Medlock, 48-years-old of Mounds, Illinois and formerly of Wyatt, Missouri transitioned to his heavenly home on August 6, 2025, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, Illinois. Corey was born April 8, 1977, in
Charleston, MO to the union of Michael Thomas Medlock and Tamera Kay Adams Snider. To this union he had one sibling Charles Medlock of Scott City, Missouri. Charles has five children Mikayla Akridge, Emily Medlock, Nicholas Medlock, Trenton Medlock, and Bentley Medlock. Corey was raised in
Charleston, MO by Michael Thomas Medlock and stepmother Melissa Ann Bender-Medlock. Eventually the family settled in Wyatt, Missouri and to this union he has five siblings. Elizabeth (Jacob) Gray and children Camden, Eli, and Aubrey of Matthews, Missouri. Jordan Medlock and daughter Paislee of Portageville, Missouri. Matthew (Lindsey) Medlock and daughter Brooklyn of Sikeston, Missouri. Joshua (Kate) Medlock and children Quinn, Lucy, and Ellie of
Charleston, Missouri. Natalie (Chris) Koesterer and children Wyatt and Chase of Perryville, MO. He has two additional siblings from the union of Tamera Kay Adams Snider and Sam Barbee, Melinda (Heikki) Itkonen and children Colt and Eveliina of Kotka, Finland and Samantha (Dustin) Hougas and children Samuel and Dustin Jr. of Poplar Bluff, MO. Corey attended Charleston High School, where he excelled in track, football, and baseball. He was crucial on the pitchers' mound helping the East Prairie-Sikeston All Star team to advance to the State Senior Babe Ruth tournament. Corey loved all things baseball and even playing slow pitch soft ball into his 30's until a sports injury kept him from playing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Corey continued his education through University of Phoenix obtaining his associate's degree in organizational security management. He was employed at Saint Francis Medical Center for 13 years in Cape Girardeau, MO. Most of that time he worked in the Security Department. After sustaining a sports-related injury he changed career paths and began working with Robinson Transportation. Corey loved driving the school bus and interacting with the children of Cairo and Meridian School Districts. Corey worked his way up to being the Transportation Manager at Meridian High School at the time of his passing. Corey met the love of his life Ashley Nicole Short of Karnak, Illinois and they were married on September 18th, 2014. Together they share four children: Hannah Aliese Medlock, Jared Philip Medlock, Hannah Nicole Medlock, and Madelyn Paige Medlock. Corey was an involved and engaged father, coaching t-ball teams and cheering at gymnastic competitions. He was extremely family focused. He loved family get-togethers, playing cards with his siblings, and laughing with his friends that were like family to him. He never hesitated to help anyone in need. Corey was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dudley Roger Medlock and Margaret Elizabeth Ledbetter-Medlock and maternal grandparents, Thomas Richard Adams and Mary Louise Talley- Adams and Fred Eugene "Boob" Bender. Corey is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Ashley Medlock, their children, his parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was loved by his in-laws, Father-in-law James Lee Short and Mother-in-law Mary Denise Short of Karnak,Illinois. Brother-in-laws Jamie (Brandi) Short and children Carter and Cambrie of Belknap, Illinois, Mitchell Short of Grand Chain, Illinois and Michael Short of Karnak, Illinois. He is also survived by a host of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2025, at McMikle Funeral Home in
Charleston, MO where funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 12, 2025. Cremation to follow services.
