Cory Smith Obituary

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 5 at 2pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cory Smith, who left this world on June 12, 2025, at the age of 55. He was the son of Cdr. Raleigh M. Smith (deceased) and (Janice) Lee Smith. Cory is survived by his brother, Bradley Smith, who loved him deeply and stood by him through thick and thin. He is missed by his "favorite niece", Heather Quinian, her husband Kevin, and baby Sully. His constant companion, Boarder Collie Finley, watches for his return.
Cory served in the US Marine Corps and learned many of his skills there. His last duty was at HMX-1 in 1994. After the Corps, he worked at the Marine Electronics business and services to the local boating community.
Whether you'd known him for years or just met him in passing, chances are he offered to help with something-or simply made your day a little brighter. Helping others was how Cory expressed love. He gave freely of his time and talents-often without being asked. Friends and neighbors knew that if something was broken, Cory would show up with his tools and a grin, ready to get to work. Friends and customers will remember his enthusiasm for his boating projects, his humor, and knowledge. Cory also carried deep struggles, and though he fought with strength and heart, he lost his battle. His story is a reminder of how powerful-and often invisible-some battles can be. We will remember him not for the struggle he faced, but for the strength, love, and light he brought into the world.
Semper Fi. Rest happily in Heaven in the arms of Jesus.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 5, 2025 at 2:00pm at Altmeyer Funeral Home 5033 Rouse Dr. in Virginia Beach. A private burial will be held at a later date at Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
