Coy Browning Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 5, 2025.
Coy Duane Browning, born on September 28, 1942 in Pineville, Kentucky, was a compassionate soul whose resilient spirit and unwavering loyalty touched the lives of many. Known for his warmhearted nature and captivating storytelling with his contagious laugh that could be heard from any room, Coy's life was a testament to his enduring love for family, God, and life's simple joys. He spent his life in Cicero, Indiana, where he fostered an environment of love, faith, and unity. This loving man devoted his life to his family, demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to their happiness and well-being.
Coy was a loving husband to Sue Browning, with whom he shared a beautiful married life since September 4, 2007. A proud father to his children, Annie Dotson, Tom (Melissa) Browning, Tim (Michelle) Browning, Travis Browning, and Austin (Mercedes) Pope, Coy also embraced the joy of being a grandfather to Justin, Evan, Karsyn, Sierra, Brooke, Lance, Caden, and Giovanni. He cherished the relationships he shared with his sister-in-laws, Gloria Browning, Vicki Browning, and brothers-in-law, Andrew "Bud" Bergstrom and Larry Thatcher. His resilience and love continue to live on in them, a legacy of a life well-lived. Coy was preceded in death by his father Estel Browning, mother Lorene Blankenship, brothers Tom, Mondal, Denver, and Gary Browning, and sister Sandra Bergstrom.
Known for his dedication to his work, Coy, also known as "Big Hoss" to his friends, retired from GM in 2000 after more than 40 years of service in the automotive manufacturing industry. His love for his work was only surpassed by his passion for life's simple pleasures. Whether he was riding his Harley, engaging in a family get-together, reading his Bible, or vacationing in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Coy found joy in every moment. An enthusiastic member of the Case Knife Club and Life Church in Pendleton, Coy was also known for his impressive collection of case knives and his service as a school bus driver for 10 years. He was a dedicated IU Basketball and Chicago Bears fan, and loved to watch Westerns.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, 08 March 2025, at 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, at Hartley Funeral Homes, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN. The Funeral Service will follow at the same venue at 2:00 pm with Pastor Robert Stubbs.
Coy's life was a beautiful journey that reflected his loving nature, resilient spirit, and unwavering loyalty. His memory will continue to inspire and guide all those who had the privilege of knowing him. We invite you to share your memories of Coy and upload photos to his memorial page as a tribute to a life that was lived with faith, love, and compassion.

Coy was a truly remarkable man, and I am deeply saddened by the news of his passing. Our son thought the world of him, and his kindness left a lasting impact on our family.
We first met Coy in 2015 when Jason started at the blind school in Indianapolis. Sending him so far from home each day was daunting, but Coy immediately put our worries at ease. He cared for Jason with such warmth and dedication, ensuring he was always comfortable and at ease. In fact, Coy made such a lasting impression that to this day, Jason remains obsessed with riding school buses-his absolute favorite part of going to school. He would come home each day eager to share stories about his adventures on the bus with Mr. Coy, and he even developed a love for 97.1 Hank FM because of him.

Coy lived an extraordinary life, and his kindness, patience, and generosity will never be forgotten. He touched so many lives, including ours, and we are forever grateful for the memories he gave us.
